Nancy Bush

BORN IN

Austin, Texas

KNOWN FOR

Tonalist landscape and still-life painting

Texas artist Nancy Bush began her art education under the guidance of her great uncle, Ralph Rowntree, an international portrait artist. After earning degrees in liberal arts, psychology, and business management, she worked in the business world before pursuing her passion for art. She quickly immersed herself in art studies, completing a yearlong classical course at Mission Renaissance in Austin, Texas, in just four months. She also attended workshops at the Laguna Gloria Art Museum School of Art and studied with prominent colorists such as Ray Vinella and Ann Templeton.
After traveling through the East Coast and Europe, Bush shifted to a more subdued tonalist palette, inspired by painters like Inness, Levitan, and Twachtman. Her work, which explores human emotions through light, darkness, and atmosphere, has evolved from vibrant alla prima techniques to a more classical tonalist approach.
