He moved to New York City in 1928 to study lithography and etching at the Art Students League, where he gained recognition and sold work to publications like Scribner’s and House Beautiful. Returning to Texas in 1929, he became a partner at the successful advertising agency Franke, Wilkinson, and Schiwetz. After retiring in 1966, he focused on painting, especially campus scenes at his alma mater, Texas A&M. In 1983, the Houston Art League named him Texas Artist of the Year.
