Andrew Peters
b. 1954
BORN IN
Council Bluffs, Iowa
KNOWN FOR
Landscape, structure, and wildlife painting
From Council Bluffs, Iowa, landscape painter Andrew Peters grew up exploring an outdoors of timber and woodland and wildlife. And the fascination he developed from those days has carried over to his travels as a painter from his home in Carefree, Arizona. He has depicted scenes from Europe, Asia, and Latin America, and throughout the Southwest where for over ten years, he worked in Taos and the Four Corners area.
Peters, who showed art talent from childhood, attended college during the 1970s and favoring a realistic style, had difficulty taking art classes because of the dominance of abstraction. So he studied science at Iowa State University and drew and painted on his own at night. At age 22, he was awarded the Iowa Duck Stamp award, and through his 20s and 30s painted wildlife and figures.
