An impressionist oil painter of scenes of the Old West, he was inspired by the work of Frederic Remington, N.C. Wyeth, and John Singer Sargent as well as the Dutch Old Masters and the French Impressionists.

He took his first art course when he was age eleven and continued his interest although he spent nine years in the Air Force until 1964, specializing in electronics. He was inspired to paint western landscape when he lived in Montana during this military service.

Primarily his art education was taking correspondence courses with the Famous Artists School. He worked in Mississippi and Florida and then went to night school at the Art Center School of Design in Los Angeles while working as a commercial artist.
