KNOWN FOR

Frontier history, wildlife and Civil War painting

From Decatur, Alabama, Michael Schreck is a painter of history, sporting, wildlife and portrait subjects with a specialty being scenes from the Civil War and early American frontier such as Custer’s Last Stand, and Robert E. Lee with his horse, Traveler.  Referring to himself as ‘pretty diverse’ and ‘a historian too’, Schreck also depicts many African animals.

“Hunting and fishing are my inspiration,” Schreck said, whether in Africa, the United States or Scotland.  There’s a self-portrait with a lion among other scenes featuring fly-fishing, canoeing and a decoy carver.  And sometimes he adds a bit of nostalgia, such as a 1920s car.
