Lynn Bogue Hunt was a seminal American wildlife artist and illustrator whose paintings graced more outdoor magazines than any of his peers. Born in Honeoye Falls, NY, and raised in Albion, Michigan, he developed an early passion for birds, taxidermy, and field study. After stints at Albion College and the Detroit Free Press, he moved to New York in 1903, launching a prolific freelance career. Hunt’s work centered on upland game birds, waterfowl, hunting dogs, and sport fishing, reflecting his own avocations. He painted a record 106 covers for Field & Stream between 1904 and 1951, illustrating dozens of books and designing the 1939–40 Federal Duck Stamp. Described by The New York Times as “the Audubon of his time,” Hunt’s paintings remain icons of mid‑20th‑century American sporting art.
