He briefly worked as a freelance animator for Disney before transitioning to street art in the 1990s, subverting advertisements across New York City. His work gained international recognition, leading to collaborations with global brands like Nike, Vans, and Comme des Garçons. In the late ’90s, KAWS began creating limited edition vinyl toys, which became popular worldwide, particularly in Japan.
